Three Sunrise of Bassett Team Members Celebrate Five Years of Service

Three Sunrise of Bassett team members have celebrated providing five consecutive years of service at the care home.

Chris Lawrence, Joanie Sin and Claire Lourenco have all reached this remarkable milestone having each been on a unique journey over the last five years. 

Chris, who is a kitchen porter at Sunrise of Bassett, said he first joined the care home as he wanted to show compassion towards others. He also attributed his long service at the care home to a love of interacting with others and a passion for working with the elderly.

Speaking of his achievement, Chris said:

“I feel proud to have served Sunrise of Bassett for five years. Since joining the care home, I have built confidence and also developed my “meet and greet” skills when I spent a period working with the concierge team. One of my favourite moments working at the care home was when a family member approached me to say that the whole shift runs better when I am on duty. This made me feel truly valued.

“My advice to those looking to work in a care home is to be patient and use your compassion.”

Joanie, who has also reached this remarkable milestone, is one of the care home’s Shift Leaders who is responsible for many of the meetings with residents and their families. She also ensures that residents are well looked after and that team members are complying with their training to deliver excellent levels of service for residents.

Joanie joined Sunrise of Bassett because she wanted to progress her career at an excellent care provider. Starting as a Senior Care Assistant in 2015, she was promoted to her current position last year and loves the variety of challenges that come her way on a daily basis.

After reaching this milestone, Joanie said:

“Working at Sunrise of Bassett for five consecutive years is truly an amazing feeling as I have gotten to know the residents by heart. Over the last five years I have learnt that patience is a virtue, and that trust and respect are hugely important.

“At Sunrise of Bassett, I love when the team and I do impromptu entertainment for our residents. This has been especially true during lockdown when our usual entertainers have not been able to come to the care home so the team has had to step up, much to the delight of our residents.”

Claire is also celebrating her five years of service at the home and currently works as a Support Worker. Previously working in housekeeping and in kitchens, Claire says she was drawn to care and chose Sunrise of Bassett as it has an excellent reputation with a homely atmosphere.

In her role, Claire prides herself on ensuring that the physical and mental needs of the care home’s residents are met. She says that she has learnt that being a Support Worker is more about being there for residents and less about completing tasks. Claire also feels honoured to work for a great company with passionate team members and says that the wonderful residents have been the main reason for her staying at the care home for all these years.

Amelia, who works alongside Claire as a Support Worker, added: “Claire is a great team member and is always there to help when needed.”

Speaking of her five-years of service, Claire said:

“I love Sunrise of Bassett due to the homely and family feel. It is also wonderful to have fun in this job, being light humoured but also always being a shoulder to cry on when needed. My favourite moment over these last five years was when the care home organised a beach party for the residents – it was such fun.

“I would recommend that all people consider a career in a care team. You’ll get to be yourself, support others and, most importantly, gain a second family.

“I hope to still be here to achieve my ten years of service award!”

Film Screening at Samvedna Senior Care

On 30th September, 2019, Samvedna Senior Care Foundation hosted the 2nd film festival of generations in association with Heidelberg University, Germany. The film Sputnik Moment – 30 years and beyond was screened at our senior citizen centre in Gurgaon for our members and staff. The film highlighted how senior citizens in Germany and the US were taking up second careers to fill their time, engage meaningfully and also get support through additional income.
